If you are visiting Bruges, a stop at Tonka Tearoom is a must. Our fresh pancakes and waffles are the stars of the menu. They are prepared daily with great love by our owner Johan, a former apprentice baker and pastry chef at Ter Groene Poorte. It was his dream to start his own tearoom.
Our tearoom is named after the tonka, a tropical tree native to South America with elliptical leaves and purple flowers. The fruit of the tree contains a seed: the tonka bean. It is used for various purposes. However, it must be first soaked in rum for a day and then dried.
The scent of the tonka bean is described by some as hypnotic. Just like the taste, it has hints of vanilla, almond, cinnamon and clove. At our tearoom, the tonka bean is an important ingredient of the homemade pastries.
Book today at Tonka Tearoom!
Would you like to reserve a table at our tearoom? Then you can easily do so online. For groups of eight or more, we ask you to book by phone. By the way, it is perfectly possible to request a gift voucher and treat someone to a visit to Tonka.
Due to its central location in Bruges, our tearoom is easily accessible. You can come by public transportation or by car. You can park at Oud Sint-Jan (above ground) or Katelijnestraat (underground). The Minnewater, the Bruges brewery and the Beguinage are all within walking distance – ideal for a day trip!
Delicious breakfast in this renovated house in the traditional part of Brugge.
The place is very busy but they manage to provide a good service.
The food is definitely good and prepares you to a new day exploring the beautiful Brugge.
A kind of hidden gem between many tourist highlights in Brugge.
2 locals are serving fresh waffles and pancakes.
Beautiful restaurant and cozy atmosphere. Breakfast was simple but delicious. Sweet ginger tea was lovely and a very pleasant gesture with a mini panacotta and biscuit served with the tea and coffee.
Absolutely delicious breakfast. We originally went for waffles, but they're not served until lunchtime so we had pancakes, a acai bowl and a bagel; all of which were amazing and we're glad we were too early for waffles!! Would definitely recommend and return if we're ever in Bruges again
